While there is a great demand for forest resources, people are destroying this natural wealth. Hence it is important on the part of the government to manage forests in an efficient manner. This is why the government has come up with a national forest policy wherein the forests are treated as the national wealth. After independence, the government has come up with a new forest policy in 1988. The emphasis in this policy is to take care of the local needs first and then adhere to the national needs.
